The Scholar
17 " x 10 "
bronze edition of 15
The style of this piece was inspired by the sixteenth century engravings
of the German artist Albrecht Durer. This wise old scholar carries with
him symbols of education and importance of learning. The open book is
his invaluable source of information and his age represents the wisdom
of experience as his eyes look ahead to the future. He carries with him
the key to learning and glasses to see the truth. The knowledge that he
possesses will give him strength and protect him like the spear. The
lettering down the side, "Scientia Est Potentia" is Latin which
translates as "knowledge is power".
