The Anti-Martyr

The ‘Anti-Martyr’ is the sworn enemy of victim mentality. She deflects, with her impregnable shield of reason, the self-recrimination that is associated with negative, life-draining relationships.
She is a representation of our purest self. She rallies to our defense against the negative relationships in which we too often subordinate our self-worth, which creates our own martyrdom. The reflection in the shield represents an abstract antagonist falling away.
She is, however, vulnerable to a blind-side attack because the shield is a cumbersome one-sided defense. She must be ever vigilant so as not to be carried from the battlefield upon her own shield, a casualty of this unconventional war.
Inspired by a fragment of the Sistine chapel, this image is made personal by life experiences and observations of humanity that most people can identify with. It stands as a reminder that society is in no need of self-made false
Martyrs.
