Inspired by the 19th century painting by the French painter Theodore Gericault, of the Barberi race at Corso, this sculpture depicts the final event of a yearly ancient Roman festival. Wild horses were gathered together where men held them by hand at the starting line, then in a flurry of excitement and chaos let them all go to run the course riderless.
